Too many CHHS alumni pages had sprouted up on freebie hosting sites that were too hard to find or too difficult to manage. Our site for Class of 1988 had moved twice and ended up expanding to 1986-1991 and getting more disorganized every day. Other family members expressed wishes they had sites (we've had six CHHS family members graduate from CHHS, 60s-80s) and then emails from other classes starting coming in, asking for help building them.

So, chhsalumni.com was founded to give every one a centralized place on the web to store class reunion info, alumni updates and other info relating to being an alum of Chapel Hill High School. Another sad loss to report from the faculty, as teacher AK Smith passed away recently. His son Keith (88) sent us this info on his passing:

AK Smith taught at CHHS for 40 years, AP Physics, AP Chem, Astronomy, Photography and the last year he was actually the acting principal. AK passed away on Wed April 3rd - he had been fighting Leukemia for many years. We will be having a memorial service at Walker Funeral Home on Sunday April 13th, 2:00pm.

He worked extensively with the College Board assisting colleagues nationally to establish their own Advanced Placement curriculums, and received the First Siemens Award for Advanced Placement National Scholar Award in 2000. Throughout his career AK challenged young minds because the students challenged him.

(Dec. 2007) Many CHHS alumni are mourning the loss of teacher Alycia Allen. Alycia passed away suddenly from complications of diabetes at the age of 56 on December 18, 2007. Ms Allen taught in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools from 1975-1998, where she shared her love of dance, ceramics, art, cheerleading and theatre with students. (Nov. 2006) Chapel Hill XC Alumni, Friends and Family - Please come and join us for the 2nd Annual CHHS XC Alumni Fun Run/Walk (5k) on Saturday, December 23, 2:00pm at Chapel Hill High School. Bring your family and friends and enjoy this great opportunity to catch up with old teammates, get some exercise and be cheered on by the 2006 Men's and Women's State Championship teams!!!! We did it again!!!! A $10 donation is requested to help support the CHHS XC program.

Immediately after the run join us for refreshments at the Lake Hogan Farm Club House. From High School Rd. take a left onto Homestead Rd. and then a right onto Lake Hogan Farm Rd. At the 3rd stop sign take a right onto Commons Way and the club house will be on your left. *T-shirts will be available for sale. Please reply with your size if interested when you RSVP. And wear your favorite CHHS XC t-shirt, if you still have one!

(Oct. 2006) I found this site that works with HS for scheduling sports. Well they also print custom tshirts, etc for the schools. You can order whatever year you want, back to the 40s! I ordered a 1988 CHHS Softball shirt to be done. You can even make generic CHHS Alumni shirts for your year or whatever you want. I'm just giving you the link, not making any money off this but the school does I think, so go for it! My Locker for CHHS

(July 2005) Yes everything is just fine... I'm just a bit slow updating at times since I've got a lot on my plate. Added some reunion updates recently as well.
